The receipt of several new species of Ceratostylis during the pro-

That given in the key to the genera of British Indian Orchids, at
p- 671 of vol. v., is especially faulty, and should be replaced by ‘ Flowers
solitary or in a lax fascicle, axillary to the pseudobnlb of the terminal
leaf. Column with two erect arms, pollinia 8.’—J. D. H.

In the ‘ Flora of British India’ I have followed Blume in removing
Oyrtopera from Cyrtopodium, and placing it under Eulophia as a
such insertion of the lateral sepals, I am obliged to refer it to Eulophia

which these belong in the very narrow leaves, as well as in characters
of the lip.—J. D. H.

The plate here given is the reproduction of a garni drawing by
the Rev. C. Parish. It resembles in many respects Sarcanthus
Parishii, Hook. (Bot, Mag. t. 5217), in habit, in the | lorate bifid leaves,
ellow flowers, spur, and especially the curious pollen ; but in that
plant the leaf-lobes are rounded, the flowers are larger, the spur
eric.
structure of the pollinia is repeated with modifications in Saccolabium
obtusifolium and acuminatum (Plates 2134, 2135), but it is carr
(according to Parish’s drawing), as it were, further in S. flavum, for
each pollen-mass is broken up into a pair, each pair has a short stipes,
and these unite into a common one that is inserted in the very long
slender flat flexnous main stipes. I need scarcely add that I regard
the genus Sarcanthus as separated from Saccolabium by a purely arti-
ficial character; and that a reclassification of the species of both, to-
gether with those of Cleisostoma, is to be looked for when better
noone are — —J. D. H.

T am quite urable to distinguish Wes. Reichenbach’s three

refer the plant here figured to the latter. It is copied from the type, a
solitary specimen in the Kew Herbarium. According to Reichenbach’s

with (according to a ue in Herb. Calcutt.) hairs on the lip (but

In Cheirostylis pusilla the sepals are connate to the middle,
the lobes of the lip toothed, its claw finely pad towards the tip, its

immatura fusiformis.
I have had great difficulty in analysing the flowers of this singular
species. The figure of the lip (3) is as that organ appeared to Miss
Smith on a careful dissection. When describing it in the ‘Flora of
British India’ I had not observed the reniform calli at its base.—J. D. H.
